As Mercedes-AMG continue their successful partnership in the production of high performance specialty vehicles, they recently unveiled their latest 603 horsepower Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon.
This takes the family car to a completely new level.
In the US market, wagons have been losing popularity in the U.S., with car manufacturers growth in sales often lead by crossovers, SUVs and compact SUVs.
But as Mercedes-Benz continues to develop new product lines for unique market segmentations, from the Mercedes-Maybach, the Sprinter Van to the EQ electric vehicle, the Mercedes-AMG partnership now sees an opportunity to bring growth and excitement back to the US wagon market.
The standard wagon from Mercedes-Benz is the often seen E400 4MATIC Wagon, but Mercedes-AMG will now add the high-performance AMG E63 S variant starting in 2018.
This Mercedes-AMG wagon is a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 offering high performance with a nine-speed AMG Speedshift MCT sports transmission.
The result is the traditional family wagon doing a zero-to-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds, with a top speed limited to 180 mph.
For the first time on an AMG wagon, the E63 S has its hood inset between the fenders and bumpers similar to the Mercedes coupe design, giving it a more dynamic appearance.
The Mercedes-AMG wagon is also wider, allowing the wheel arches to accommodate wider and larger wheels.
Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers, when describing the new model said, “It is not for nothing that the model has been a permanent fixture in the AMG portfolio for 40 years. The powerful engine and the intelligent all-wheel drive underpin our claim to always be at the forefront of development when it comes to performance.”
